Quickstart Tutorial: Creating a Castpoint
1) Design
- Decide what your CastPoint will be about.
- Think, draw, write about it to get your creative juices flowing.
- Decide what genre your idea would best fit (e.g. documentary, fiction, audio essay, etc).
- If necessary, write up a specific outline of your recording plan.
2) Record/Edit
- Use the recording device of your choice to record sound for your Castpoint.
- Import your recording into a sound-editing program on your computer.
- Save/Export your edited sound as a .mp3 file.
3) Submit
-
CastPoints must meet three basic requirements:
- Sound file must be in .mp3 format and no larger than 30mb (approximately 30 mins at 128kbps).
- Castpoint and descriptive content must not use any copyrighted material without permission from the author.
- Content must be associated with a physical point, region or object in Raleigh, NC.
(Castpoints that fail to meet these basic requirements will be deleted from the system.)
- Title - The name of your Castpoint
- Location - A verbal description of the specific spot/object/thing your CastPoint is associated with, to complement the map.
- Keywords - A comma-separated list of words that describe the content of your Castpoint. The more keywords you can think of, the more people will be able to find your CastPoint.
(Note: irrelevant, or loosely associated keywords will make it harder for the search engine to find your Castpoint, so choose your keywords carefully.)
- Description - A brief (1 or 2 paragraphs) outline of the content of your Castpoint. This shouldn't be a transcript of your Castpoint, just an abstract to let your audience know what they're in for.
